SKD61 Material – The Core Foundation of High-Performance Mold Inserts

In the field of mold manufacturing, precision and efficiency are the core requirements for supporting the stable operation of the production line. The SKD61 mold insert, as a key precision part, is widely used in various high-demand mold systems due to its excellent material performance, strict precision control, and efficient delivery cycle.

The SKD61 mold insert is made of high-quality SKD61 hot work die steel, which is a Japanese JIS standard alloy tool steel corresponding to China’s 4Cr5MoSiV1 and the United States’ H13 material, with high international versatility. This material is smelted by electric slag remelting process, which ensures pure steel quality and uniform structure, laying a solid foundation for the precision and durability of mold inserts.

The key performance advantages of SKD61 material are reflected in multiple aspects: it contains chromium, molybdenum, vanadium and other alloy elements, which endow the insert with excellent high-temperature strength and wear resistance, and can maintain stable mechanical properties even when working continuously at 600°C. Its outstanding thermal fatigue resistance can effectively resist the damage caused by repeated heating and cooling cycles in the mold working process, avoiding cracks and extending the service life of the insert. After standardized heat treatment, the surface hardness of SKD61 can reach HRC48-52, while the core toughness is well retained, achieving a perfect balance between hardness and toughness. In addition, SKD61 has good machinability and polishing performance, which can meet the strict precision requirements of precision parts processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Guangyitong Precision is a technology-driven OEM manufacturer based in Shenzhen, China. We specialize in precision mold design & manufacturing, injection molding, CNC machining, and assembly services. With over 20 years of experience, we deliver Japan-quality precision parts to clients worldwide.

We serve automotive, consumer electronics, smart devices, EV / electric vehicles, office equipment, and industrial machinery sectors. Our team handles custom parts for both domestic and international clients with multi-language drawing support (CN / JP / EN).

Our CNC machining achieves tolerances as tight as 0.005mm, with standard precision parts held to 0.025mm. We handle 4-axis and 5-axis machining for complex geometries and tight-spec components.

Yes. We specialize in low-volume, high-mix production — including single-piece prototypes. Rapid prototyping is one of our strengths, with fast-turnaround sampling via SF Express, DHL, or UPS.

Absolutely. Our engineering team reads and processes technical drawings in Chinese, Japanese, and English. Just send us your drawings and we’ll take care of the rest.

We work with engineering plastics (ABS, PA, POM, PC, etc.), aluminum alloys, stainless steel, copper, and custom-spec materials. Please contact us to confirm availability for your specific requirements.

1. Send your drawing or sample → 2. We provide a quote within 24 hours → 3. Confirm order & tooling → 4. Prototype / mass production → 5. QC inspection → 6. Shipment. We keep you updated at every stage.

We follow Japanese quality management standards with strict incoming material inspection, in-process QC, and final inspection before shipment. Our mission: “Japan-quality products made in China.”

Tooling lead time is typically 15–30 working days depending on complexity. Sample production takes 3–7 days after tooling approval. Mass production timelines are confirmed at order placement.

We have no strict MOQ. We accommodate orders from a single prototype to large-scale production runs — this flexibility is one of the key reasons our clients trust us for both R&D and full production.

What challenge can we solve for you?

From single prototypes to mass production — we bring Japan-quality precision to every part we make. Send us your drawing and let's get started.
